Context

InSite supported a European energy client with permitting strategy and regulatory guidance for an electrolyser project located within and outside a UK industrial complex.

Challenge

A European energy company required a full environmental and HSE permit review to support project schedule development for a new electrolyser installation, covering both on-site and off-site locations.

Solution

InSite collaborated closely with both the client and relevant regulatory bodies to define a permitting strategy that aligned with the overall project schedule. This included navigating planning permission, environmental permitting under IPCC, COMAH (Seveso) requirements, and hazardous substance consent. InSite also provided advice on Environmental Management System (EMS) requirements to support ongoing compliance.

The team conducted a thorough review of environmental impacts, including noise, ecology, lighting, air emissions, water discharges, visual landscape, traffic, and hazardous waste. Safety considerations such as QRA, PHA, hazardous substances, and dispersion modelling were also assessed. InSite managed engagement with statutory bodies throughout the process to ensure a clear and achievable route to construction and operational consent.
