Aled's Story

Aled James – Mechanical & Piping Apprentice

Starting as an apprentice at InSite Technical Services, I’ve been supported to grow into an M&P Designer — and I’m now working towards my engineering degree through InSite’s Degree Apprenticeship route. The company provides a great work environment with a healthy attitude towards work, creating a positive culture across every project. Being surrounded by experienced professionals from all areas of industry has allowed me to increase my technical knowledge and accelerate my professional development.

My favourite project has been the Spectra Tek project with VARO. Having the opportunity to be involved as a designer from the very beginning at FEED stage helped me understand the client requirements and continue the project through to the detailed design phase, with output of final deliverables. It’s been a perfect showcase of the skills I’ve developed so far and has continued to push me, keeping me engaged through exposure to large-scale projects.

InSite stands out because of its strong focus on personal development. As an early careers entrant, I’ve experienced continuous formal and informal training, support with qualifications and lots of opportunities to grow. Social initiatives like the Vulcain Future Leaders (VFL) scheme also help younger employees network and build relationships across the wider group.

Luke's Story

Luke O’Sullivan – Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Apprentice

InSite has given me a positive and flexible working atmosphere to grow from apprentice into an E,C&I Designer — and now to move forward again as I work towards an engineering degree. The supportive environment here means my career has been able to progress efficiently, surrounded by a diverse range of projects, clients and colleagues that continue to develop my skills and experience every day.

A standout moment in my apprenticeship was being involved in the electrical design work for the H2E Hydrogen Plant installation in Milford Haven. I supported designs for Low Voltage and High Voltage cabling and helped create layouts for new substations. While challenging at times, working collaboratively to find solutions was incredibly gratifying. Being trusted to work on a new and exciting project furthered my knowledge of all the different aspects of working life at InSite.

George James – Civil & Structural Graduate

“Since joining InSite Technical Services through the Graduate Scheme, I’ve found it to be an incredibly encouraging and supportive environment to begin my career as an engineer. Everyone here is so friendly and always happy to offer help, which has made entering industry a smooth and enjoyable experience. With so many opportunities and open doors available, I’ve been able to focus on building my confidence, broadening my knowledge and progressing in my role.

A highlight of my time so far has been working on a jetty project for a plant converting industrial emissions into sustainable aviation fuel. Being involved right from the early stages — as plans were developed — meant I could really understand the engineering behind it. I was trusted to present my work and even lead aspects of the project, which was both exciting and rewarding as a graduate.

Apprentices and graduates are seen as valuable members of the team and are constantly pushed to achieve their potential. The company is always looking to grow and improve, taking on feedback to make life at InSite the best it can be.

Ffion's Story

Joining InSite Technical Services as an Electrical, Controls & Instrumentation Apprentice has been an exciting and fun experience. Although I was initially apprehensive, I quickly settled in thanks to a supportive, knowledgeable and inclusive team. Over my first year, I’ve been given real opportunities to shine and feel like a valued member of a very experienced company where I’m constantly learning from those around me.

My favourite project so far has been the most recent one I’ve worked on, where I was given the chance to visit site to gain hands-on experience. Seeing how designs translate into real-world applications helped me better understand the process and requirements, bringing everything I’ve learnt to life.
