Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer to join our expanding engineering and design consultancy. This role is central to delivering high-quality C&I design and functional safety scope across a diverse portfolio of industrial and energy projects. This role is ideal for an experienced engineer who can lead projects, work seamlessly within a multidisciplinary environment, and engage confidently with clients, vendors, and internal teams.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the main responsibilities of the Principal C&I Engineer will include:

  • Lead and oversee the development of C&I deliverables including philosophies, specifications, datasheets, instrument schedules, I/O lists, control narratives and related engineering documentation.
  • Take responsibility for the functional safety scope across projects (IEC 61511), including HAZID/HAZOP participation, LOPA studies, SIL determination and verification, SRS development, and functional safety assessments and lifecycle documentation.
  • Lead or oversee control system design including PLC, DCS and SCADA system architectures, and provide expert input on cybersecurity considerations (IEC 62443 awareness desirable).
  • Review and approve engineering documents and deliverables for accuracy, integrity, and compliance with relevant standards, ensuring high-quality C&I output.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex C&I challenges, interfacing effectively with electrical, mechanical, and process teams and supporting discipline contributions to design reviews and technical checkpoints.
  • Define scope, deliverables and resource requirements for C&I work packages, providing accurate input to schedules, estimating, risk identification and change management.
  • Act as the primary C&I technical interface for clients, vendors and integrators, leading technical discussions, clarifying requirements, resolving queries, and supporting project decision-making.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and technical coaching to junior and mid-level engineers, promoting strong engineering quality, safety, compliance and competency development within the C&I team.

Skills Required

  • Degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering or similar (HNC/HND or relevant experience also considered).
  • Extensive experience in C&I detailed design within energy, industrial or process sectors – ideally oil & gas (downstream/refining).
  • Working knowledge of PLC, DCS and SCADA architectures, including specification, industrial instrumentation, control loop design and system design.
  • Proven ability to lead technically, communicate clearly and represent the consultancy confidently to clients, vendors and integrators.
  • Experience with system integration, commissioning, FAT/SAT or site support, with an understanding of industrial networks and cybersecurity principles.
  • Functional safety experience (IEC 61511) – e.g. HAZOP/LOPA, SIL determination/verification, SRS or lifecycle deliverables – highly desirable but not essential.
  • TUV Functional Safety Engineer (or similar certification) and/or machinery safety experience considered advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer status desirable (or working toward), with experience in a consultancy environment beneficial.
  • Reside locally to Pembroke or be prepared to relocate, as this permanent role does not include travel expense coverage.

Senior Electrical Engineer

We are seeking an Electrical Engineer or Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing engineering and design consultancy team. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality electrical design across a diverse portfolio of industrial and energy projects, working closely within a multidisciplinary environment and maintaining strong engagement with clients, contractors, and vendors.

You will play a key part in delivering high-quality electrical design work, contribute to project decisions, mentor junior engineers where appropriate, and take ownership of high-quality deliverables from concept through to detailed design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce, review and support the approval of electrical engineering documents including calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, drawings and technical reports.
  • Carry out and review electrical design activities such as cable sizing (ElectricalOM or similar), load assessments and equipment selection, ensuring designs meet functional, safety and performance requirements.
  • Support the preparation, review and coordination of drawings including general arrangements, layouts, single line diagrams, block diagrams and schematics.
  • Provide input to project schedules, deliverable lists, cost estimates and the identification of scope, engineering deliverables and resource requirements for allocated tasks.
  • Support change management by identifying variations in scope and communicating impacts to the Project Manager.
  • Liaise with clients, contractors, vendors and internal teams to clarify design requirements, resolve technical queries and support alignment across the project.
  • Participate in design reviews, project meetings and technical workshops, working closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Provide guidance to junior engineers and apprentices where appropriate, contributing to a positive team culture focused on engineering excellence.

Principal Electrical Engineer

We are seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to strengthen our growing engineering and design consultancy. This role is ideal for an experienced electrical professional who brings deep technical expertise, particularly in power systems and power system studies, and can provide disciplined leadership across a diverse portfolio of industrial and energy projects.

As a senior member of the team, you will lead key technical decisions, oversee complex electrical design scopes, mentor engineers across all levels, and represent the electrical discipline in high-impact client, contractor, and vendor engagements. You will play a pivotal role in shaping best practices, improving design approaches, and elevating the technical capability of the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the production, review and approval of electrical engineering documents including calculations, specifications, datasheets, schedules, drawings and technical reports.
  • Provide expert input on complex electrical design activities such as cable sizing, load assessments, network configuration, system architecture and power system design.
  • Act as the technical authority for power system studies, including load flow, fault level assessments, protection coordination, arc flash analysis, harmonic studies and overall system resilience.
  • Deliver and oversee power system studies using ETAP or similar tools, and lead the definition of network design requirements for LV and HV systems, protection philosophies, earthing strategies and operating concepts.
  • Define scope, deliverables and resource requirements for electrical engineering work packages, providing accurate input to schedules, estimating, risk identification and change management.
  • Represent the electrical discipline in client meetings and technical discussions, resolving complex design queries and coordinating with vendors and contractors to ensure technical integrity.
  • Work closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated, high-quality project solutions, contributing to design reviews, HAZOPs, model reviews and key technical checkpoints.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and apprentices, promoting a culture of engineering excellence, quality and continuous improvement across the team.

Lead Planner (P6)

As Planning Lead, you will own planning and scheduling across a portfolio of multidisciplinary engineering projects, ensuring robust project control from concept and feasibility stages through FEED and detailed design. You’ll work closely with project managers, discipline leads, and external stakeholders to build realistic and deliverable schedules aligned with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the main responsibilities of the Lead Planner will include:

  • Act as the functional owner for planning across the organisation, defining planning standards, processes and templates for consistent delivery.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to project managers and planners on planning methodology.
  • Develop and manage integrated project schedules in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project, aligned to stage-gate development (Concept, Feasibility, FEED, Detail Design).
  • Identify critical path, schedule risks and opportunities.
  • Facilitate planning workshops with technical teams and discipline leads.
  • Provide planning input for proposals, bid programmes and tender responses.
  • Support monthly project reporting, forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Lead continuous improvement in project planning and project controls.
  • Support resource planning and future growth of the planning capability.

Skills Required

We are looking for individuals who can bring the following:

  • Demonstrated experience as a planner or planning engineer in an engineering and design consultancy or EPC project environment – ideally with industry exposure to energy, major industrial or infrastructure sectors.
  • Ability to build multidisciplinary engineering schedules across concept, feasibility, FEED and detailed design stages.
  • Strong Primavera P6 capability (schedule build, logic, baselining, critical path analysis), alongside Microsoft Project experience.
  • Effective communicator with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Desirable:

  • Experience or ability to lead continuous improvement initiatives of project controls and planning is desirable, alongside an understanding of integrated cost/schedule reporting.
  • Ideally, hold APM, PMI or relevant planning / project management qualifications.
