Context

InSite provided a full engineering package for the import and pre-treatment of Used Cooking Oil (UCO) within the tank storage area of a European refinery.

Challenge

A European refinery wished to process Used Cooking Oil (UCO) within the refinery. To achieve this, the UCO had to be imported, stored and pre-treated, prior to being supplied to the refinery process units. A design package was required to re-purpose existing import and storage infrastructure, as well as to design and install the new pre-treatment unit (PTU) within the existing site.

Solution

InSite provided an experienced process team to undertake the feasibility study, supported by engineers from all disciplines. We developed the overall process flow scheme, including safety and operability reviews, early optioneering, and project risk reviews. A comprehensive class 4 cost estimate was developed, including several options, to assist the client phase gate approval.

A full FEED design package was provided, including civil, structural, piping and EC&I design, for the import and storage facilities as well as the PTU. Detailed model reviews with existing point cloud data allowed for operations and maintenance engagement.

Critical path identification ensured the design packages were prioritised to meet project schedule requirements, including early works. A Class 2 cost estimate was produced to support client final investment decision (FID).
